River works with organisations of every size and sector, and with the people inside them. This statement sets out our commitment to inclusion, and gives an honest account of how accessible this website is today.

Our commitment

We welcome clients, colleagues, suppliers and partners regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation — the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010 — and regardless of anything else that makes someone who they are.

Discrimination, harassment and victimisation have no place in how we work, on our own premises or on a client's site. We expect the same standard from the subcontractors and partners who deliver work alongside us.

Accessibility of this website

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We believe this site is currently in partial conformance: most of it meets that standard, and the exceptions are listed below rather than hidden.

What we have done

• Text and background colour combinations are checked against the AA contrast threshold rather than judged by eye;
• Headings are used in a meaningful order, so screen readers and keyboard users can navigate by structure;
• Interactive components — menus, tabs, accordions — are reachable and operable by keyboard, with visible focus states;
• Movement on the site, including the animated hero and the process timeline, is disabled automatically for anyone whose device requests reduced motion;
• Images carry alternative text describing what is actually shown;
• The site reflows to a single column on small screens without horizontal scrolling, and works at increased browser zoom;
• We write in plain English and avoid jargon where a normal word will do.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you than have you find out:

• White text on the blue-to-green gradient buttons measures around 3:1 against a 4.5:1 requirement for text at that size. This is a known shortfall and a fix has been deployed.
• The site has not been independently audited, and has not been tested with every assistive technology. Our assessment is our own;
• Some photography is decorative stock imagery rather than pictures of River's own work;
• Documents published as PDFs may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send the content in an accessible format;

Technical information

This site relies on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It is built to work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile. The header, footer and some interactive sections need JavaScript enabled.
